Symptoms of the separation anxiety in your dog are the demonstrations of panic when the dog is left unattended. Your English Springer may try to jump through the window to follow you, or scratch up the wall, or bark non-stop, or be destructive in the house.
In order to prevent your Springer from such a behavior, have at least 3 or 4 days to get it adjusted to the new situation. It is essential to purchase a crate before you bring a rescue dog home. Having a place of its own will comfort the dog.
When you have your dog crate-trained, you have made a first step toward battling the separation anxiety. Now you have to extend the periods of separation beginning from not more than 5 minutes. If the dog is quiet when you are gone, praise him. Always leave your Springer in its crate when you are about to leave. Rescue English Springer Spaniels usually make affectionate pets, relying on you and seeing their world in you.
